Frequently Asked Questions
To gain access to the Diamond Way teachings with Geshe Michael, you need to attend all 6 Lamrims, which will take place in 2025–2026 — either in person or online — taught by Geshe Michael or Peter and Maria Moertl.
Geshe Michael would like everyone to study the Lamrim together with him this time, even if you have already studied Lamrim or Delam before, or already have an initiation from him or from any other teacher. The point is not that the transmission from Geshe Michael will be considered better than any other transmission of these teachings, but that Lamrim is meant for practice and study throughout one’s entire life. It is traditional preparation for the Diamond Way, according to many great teachers, including Pabongka Rinpoche and others. Geshe Michael himself studied Pabongka Rinpoche’s Lamrim three times from his own teacher — we studied it only ONCE with Geshe Michael over the course of more than fourteen years — and therefore, it would be completely natural to review the teaching before beginning the Diamond Way with Geshe Michael, whether you are studying it for the first time or reviewing it again.
For each of the required Lamrim sessions there will be homework and a final exam at the end of the 15 preparatory classes that will be held during 2025–2026 before you receive the initiation. Homework assignments and tests will be available after each course is completed.
No. As with any serious preparation for the Diamond Way, including “Delam,” in order to receive a direct transmission, you must be taught by a live person. This means you must attend all sessions in person or online — with your camera turned on.
Absolutely not. Geshe Michael encourages everyone to continue studying and practicing these 18 courses. These 18 advanced study courses are the most complete curriculum ever developed and cover all the main aspects of Diamond Path practice. Every student must find a teacher who will guide them through these courses when they are prepared and ready. The depth and beauty of these courses are immeasurable, and we encourage everyone to spend as much time as possible with these precious teachings.
The standard path to advanced study is to complete the 18 foundational courses. They cover all practices and basic knowledge needed to understand every step on this path. In addition, a student needs permission from a teacher to join the advanced courses, which includes an assessment of their readiness, understanding, and integration of the knowledge gained in the 18 foundational courses.
